I grew up in a more remote area of Connecticut, in-the-sticks you could say. I spent most of my time outside surrounded by trees, ponds and rolling hills with what I thought were ancient stone walls. My mom still can’t get a pizza delivered to her house and there are some narrow unsettling roads with sheer drops down into a ravine leading to her home. Nature to me became an infinite slideshow of diverse and intricately beautiful spaces. 200 in.² could be a world of its own curated by the forces of nature. Nature magnification works, in my Animals Botanical and Minerals series, Majestify (my own word) a bijou space that I find in my travels.

I love to travel, I love to hike and I love to camp, and yet sometimes those gorgeous tiny plots of land may be a showering of spring petals across the puddle on a sidewalk in the rain in a small New England village. Looking up through blossoms on a crabapple tree, the long-term relationship of tree branches and ocean tumbled boulders, the tiny view within the crevice of a sunbleached fallen tree at the seashore… these all find their ways into the Viewmaster reel of my existence.

I am a random traveler through this world, my painting series are way of organizing locations, cityscapes, seascapes, landscapes and people-scapes. I get turned on by the challenge of a new surface that is intricate and difficult. I’m a texture junkie and when I paint it’s like constantly engineering how to create the fractals of a texture with my brushes and my paint and my canvas. “Brushes” could include random tools I find in hardware, grocery and pet stores if it will get the paint where I need it to go. I am a witness to that time, that place. I want to see a very small phenomenon grow mighty and beautiful.
